Lake Tawakoni nears record low elevationJan 11, 2015 By Larry Briscoe The drought has taken the Lake Tawakoni elevation down to within inches of its all-time record low 424.96 recording. The reading at press time Monday was 425.44, just about six inches shy of the record that was set Dec. 24, 2006. With no significant rainfall, the lake elevation would be on course to reach the record low in about two weeks. With the lake level down 12.02 feet below its full pool level of 437.5, Lake Tawakoni is down to 56.3 percent full. The conservation capacity of 871,685 acre feet is down to 490,646 acre feet conservation storage and a surface area of 25,851 acres. Water has not crossed the spillway since 2010 although it came within inches in 2012. During the drought of 2006, water did not fall over the spillway from March 9, 2005, until just before midnight on June 28, 2007. A new low reading was recorded with each successive reading after Aug. 2006 when the previous low was matched of 428.58. That record low was first set Oct. 20, 1996. The all-time high elevation recording was taken May 1, 1966, at 442.50. According to Sabine River Authority (SRA) statistics, annual rainfall over the Lake Tawakoni basin averages 39.5 inches. The maximum record was measured in 1946 of 63.7 inches. The record low rainfall was 17.6 inches in 1910. http://vanzandtnews.com/lake-tawakoni-nears-record-low-elevation/

First two questions that come to mind are 1) What is the source of water for each BOW?... and 2) Is there a difference in elevation?

Bill I think Lake Tawakoni comes from the Sabine River and my pond an usually good water-shed. Not sure about elevation. I feel blessed to be surrounded by drought and be full.

Zep my place is 15 miles from Tawakoni and is brim full too. Tawakoni has a tremendous water shed. With all the rain lately I don't know why it isn't filling.

Do they generate hydro-electric power?
If so, maybe they are just releasing more water for generation than they are getting back via rainfall.

Think drinking water for Fort Worth.
The Big Pong is up several inches, but is still not where it was late last year, but we are getting closer.

Also my average rainfall is more like 48-50 inches. It is interesting to see what 20-30 miles can do.

Same here is Kansas. As you go west to east, rainfall amounts increase significantly. I sit in a little nook of the highest rainfall for the entire state.

I find the same thing. My place is arid. Lusk is about 50 miles away and gets quite a bit of rain.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
