Thanks Rex.
Interestingly I got a response on an aquaculture list serve from a guy that has had them in his system for 20 years and said he doesn't believe it's a problem. But he did tell me how to get rid of them with PP AND salt if I want to. I can share it if anyone is interested.
Another contributor that runs a state fish hatchery said not to worry about it as I don't have any birds to complete the parasite cycle. He said they're actually be beneficial in eating the excess old bacteria.
I doubt many will get too far in the fish tank with up to 1000 bluegills. In fact I haven't seen any in the fish tank itself. These are not ramshorn snails so they are easier to eat and digest than ramshorn snails.
So I need to decide if I want to erradicate them with the associated risk. I know from experience that sometimes doing something can be worse than doing nothing at all. The goverment does it all the time.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Cecil, do you want some RES next year?
I'd be really tempted to leave them there.

No idea where I'd put them and I wonder what the survival would be in my 9 foot max depth pond? The temps drop rapidly in the fall if it's cold and windy. As you know that pond is out in the open.
Like I said no snails to speak of in the fish tank due to the bluegills. And obviously a fish couldn't survive in the moving bed tank.

Cecil, I tried last summer to get snails established in my 75 gallon aquarium with RES, it didn't work.

The goverment does it all the time. Except for the potential parasite issues, I don't see where the snails would be an issue either. Perhaps some parasites are ubiquitous...? The snails eating dead bacteria would be a plus. Another plus is that the shells are another fresh substrate for the bacteria to grow on. Upping your salinity, if it doesn't hurt any plants, to about ~.4% could possibly limit snail reproduction if .5% starts becoming lethal.... Aquaponics is fun!
