I planted exactly 7 days ago and I have a green top already although only maybe 1/2-1 inch tall gulf rye grass seed. There is still a lot of seed out there that will be up within the next few days. I have been advised to plant my second seeding before it gets too tall and I will probably mix in some burmuda to be in place for next spring. My question is should I keep from walking on the young tender sprouts and if so how long should I wait?? I just don't want to damage or kill what has already come up. Thanks

Thanks rainman. The slow soaking rains about 4 days apart was perfect. No washout and no frost or freezing days.Had 70 degree days for the most part. Unseasonably warm even for east Texas. Its the brightest lime green I think I have ever seen. Wish it could stay that way forever!!

I would give it another week. Time for the roots to grow a little more. You will also have a much better feel for what kind of stand you have and what areas need work.

Thanks Bill, I will hold off till next weekend. On another note.... Are ducks good for a pond? Pros and cons. I have about a dozen mallard duck decoys I can put on the pond. I love wildlife, especially birds. Have thought of purchasing domestic ducks.

I walk on mine immediately. Also drive over it.
Lots of info here on ducks for a private pond. None of it good.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I walk on mine immediately. Also drive over it. That's what the instructions said on my rye grass last year. Been too busy this year, but last year I drove over the seed multiple times with the ATV. (see pics below) As far as once it sprouts I'm not sure. Love rye.

Flame...and it's so darn easy.
And that's from a guy that can barely put gas in his car...ha ha.
I just walked along the shore throwing out rye seed, drove over it a few times on the ATV and a couple3 weeks later it looked like the pictures.
