Where can a person get some bullfrogs at a decent price to stock his pond? Will they stick around once I put them there? Thanks

From my experience imported adult frogs have a homing instinct and at mating season will seek the pond where they were grew up as a tadpole. I am not sure if this has been scientifically proven. In my opinion, if you want the adult frogs to be fairly permenant residents of your pond it is best to have them develop in the pond as tadpoles. Often during summer adult bullfrogs will leave the pond and forage in other areas which is "risky business" as far as survival is concerned. Adult bullfrogs are very pedatory and in favor of cannibalism.

i put 24 frogs in my pond about 6 weeks ago,not sure why but after 3-4 days we could not find them.we hear one every once in a while but never see them.at this point i think the bass may have had a nice lunch, all though i thought they were to big to be eaten by anything i have in my pond at this time.

There are some studies that suggest that ROUNDUP in pond water will kill tadpoles in some situations. Of course, the makers of ROUNDUP hotly dispute this. If you want frogs, you might consider this.

there is a small marsh down stream from my 1/4 acre pond. i had enough bull frogs migrate into my pond within a month after digging and the pond still isnt even finished. they are loud but calming. o ya if they are annoying some M80s or firecrackers seem to quiet them down. lol

Wow.....this thread almost 2 years old. Anyway, I didn't have to buy any Bull Frogs. Last spring about 10,000 BF tadpoles appeared in my pond....some turned into frogs.....about 3,000, I suppose. I wondered all summer what I was going to do with all them damn frogs. After a big, cool rain last fall, they disappeared. Either hibernated or left....don't know maybe they will be back this spring. Next time I will be careful for what I wish for....

Bar-O, they probably dug in. They also seem to be able to delay morphing into frogs, and can remain large tadpoles for prolonged length of time.

Harvey Harvey, I acutally find the nightly chorus of hundreds of male bull frogs seeking females quite relaxing during the summer.

Harvey, Some people in the city pay good money for nature's sound machines and we have them every night. Whether it is BF's, tree frogs(little boogers make almost as much noise as a BF), crickets, locusts, miniature donkeys braying, coyote's howling, etc, etc, etc, you seem to get used to it and sleep pretty darn good at night. Wouldn't trade it AGAIN for the sound of racing vehicles, honking cars, burglar alarms and sirens. Love the country!

Some nights there are a dozen or more on my patio door. They can get to be a real nuisance because they slime up the glass. Next warm night when there are too many, I think I'll gather them up and take them to the pond.
