Took this toad out of the trout pond tonight. To wide to fit right into a 6 inch wide measuring board. Yes it's well fed but keep in mind that male brook trout produce a high back during spawning. It's known as sexual dimorphism. Another example is the the head lengthens with a longer lower jaw. Not much of a kype vs. browns and rainbows though. Not a trout at all but actually a char.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

You should be smiling. Okay now you're just showing off! Just kidding - You just broke your own RW (Wr) body condition record with the Rw (Wr) for this extra tubby brook trout of 211 vs the other one of 180. Standard weight for a 20" brook trout is 3.1 lbs.

Just wish I wasn't having issues with some of them as in equilibrium problems and hanging next to shore and refusing to eat. I'd like to hold on to them one more year to get 7 to 8 pound fish but can't take the chance of running a well with only a few fish left. So I've invited my fishing buddies to help me take them out and then will drain the pond. There are about 75 unaccounted for. Could see a buttload on the bottom when I drain next week. Or there are more fish in the pond than it looks at feeding time.
Could be fatty livers although I only feed them once a day and at 1 percent of body weight. OTOH most domestic brook trout only live 3 to 4 years so they may just be ready to peter out.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

I think for fish as in people it takes a lot longer than one thinks to loose weight or change body condition even after changing diet. For example YP that stop eating in late summer have enough stored body fat to not eat all late fall thru winter until spring and to develop a full compliment of eggs (25% body wt) that are laid in Mar-Apr.

Cecil, you have the best trout I've ever seen, and your sweaters are a close second. Whenever you are posing with a trophy, you have one of those on it seems. You HAVE to provide one of those for the Jesse West foundation auction at the convention this year.

I had that thing on in the taxidermy shop today. Pretty nasty sweater!

I want that sweater. I'll trade it for a Cornhusker hoody.
Let us know how the new feed works - we need to know about alternatives. If there was something geared towards longevity plus growth, I'd be all over it.

Cecil, I know you don't want to risk the investment, but I can't help but wonder if you'd still have those problems if you stopped feeding altogether for a few weeks?

Cecil, I know you don't want to risk the investment, but I can't help but wonder if you'd still have those problems if you stopped feeding altogether for a few weeks? Possible. Had a taxidermist friend over that specializes in gameheads. He is having me mount one of three brooks he caught in about 10 minutes on a bright orange Roostertail. He doesn't want the biggest one mounted which is 20 1/2 inches and 6 lbs. 12 ounces. It's now the biggest one. Pictures later.

Update: have now taken four brook trout over 6 lbs. out of the pond. Yesterday I had four friends over and they caught 11 in about 15 minutes. Only one was under 5 lbs. and one fish was close to 22 inches. Not bad for 3 year old fish.
Could have caught more but I have only so much shelf space in an upright freezer to freeze the flat before shrink wrapping the. I also want to save some for other anglers that are coming.
There seem to be about a dozen fish left judging by the feeding response.
Will drain, refill, and sterilze with PP next week and hope to plant a new crop this month. Thinking of trying to mix brooks AND browns this time as I have a call for both.
I will post pics once I get them back from the anglers if anyone is interested.
Gonna run the diffuser 24/7 this time in summer as I found out it makes little difference in pond temps in this small borehole fed pond, and turning it off during the day may have stressed the trout when they the poundage got higher. Could explain some of the morts.

Thanks Dwight. Did have a trout farmer tell me if that fish was on her line she'd beat it with a stick first. Some more fish pics. This one was over 5 lbs. Two more over 6 lbs. Four brooks over 6 lbs. now.
