A friend of mine went out sunday and they gave me a buzz to see if I could identify the fish. I nearly couldn`t believe my eyes. Monster Bullheads...I mean like monster state record catfish. I told them to get to a TWA as soon as possible, since I believed they are to be brown bullheads. Final weights I believe were 3.8lbs and 4.8lbs. Still waiting on 100% conformation, but the TWA officials believe they were brown bullheads.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I agree ewest, they aren't very attractive. On the other hand they were quite excited about getting photos for the newspapers. I have yet to ask what he did with them, I think he should mount those ugly's.

Flatheads ain't beauty queens but at least they get big. I would mount an ugly state record.

If managed correctly, bullheads can reach 2-3 pounds quite commonly. The issue is they are usually most commonly found in poor quality habitat where predation is limited and they can easily overpopulate.

I agree, not monster fish by many peoples standards. The state record for TN was I believe 2.6lbs so it wasn't difficult overcome.

Hey, a record fish is a record fish! I think it's still an accomplishment, irregardless of the species. Here in Indiana, the record for Fliers (Centrarchus Macropterus)is just 3.5 ozs. They have an extremely limited range in this state, and are pretty uncommon.
Always thought I would like to head to those few areas where they are known to exist, and try to beat that record.
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

Tony, there are guys that go over the record books with a fine tooth comb and look for records that aren't caught or are relatively easily beatable. Then they go out and see if they can get their name in the spotlight.
