We saw our walleyes for the first time this weekend, and they look great. Our water has cleared significantly, and we have been able to observe them while feeding the HBG. They don't take feed but seem to enjoy the action. I intend to do some sample fishing for them in the next month to take weights and measurements. I'm guessing them to be around 10 inches already. They are definitely longer than our largest HGB, which are right at 9 inches. Our pond just turned 2 years old, and the walleyes, along w/SMB, were added at 6-8 inches last December.

Walleye seem to be quite curious-I've seen them come by several times on the edge of a "boil" of feeding SMB in my pond. Interestingly, their presence seems to make the SMB feed even more vigorously, almost as if they view the WE as competition, although the WE are not taking pellets. I thought I was imaging this at first, but it's happened several times this fall. Wonder if the same thing is happening with your HBG?

Wonder if the same thing is happening with your HBG? That is an interesting observation. In the interest of furthering our collective understanding of this phenomenon, I think Yolk should immediately stock HBG into his WE pond and report back with his findings.

Walleye are opportunists and come to fish activity as a feeding opportunity in case an appropriate meal presents itself.

Walleye are opportunists and come to fish activity as a feeding opportunity in case an appropriate meal presents itself. That's interesting, Bill! I never thought of them that way,but it makes sense now. In the interest of furthering our collective understanding of this phenomenon, I think Yolk should immediately stock HBG into his WE pond and report back with his findings. Sparky, I'd like to think that any walleyes in my pond would have the discerning taste to be instantly nauseated and repulsed by the grisly spectacle of a school of mutants mindlessly gorging themselves at feeding time. Therefore, it is my belief that the knowledge gained from such an experiment would be limited at best.

Come on now Yolk. I'm sure your WE are quite refined and proper, used to the finer things in life, unabashedly fussy and discriminating. However, even ancient Rome's most dapper and aristocratic members of society couldn't resist the lure of an afternoon spent down at the arena, watching the gladiators do battle.
I think it would be good for your WE to let their hair down, so to speak.

Sparkie, you have obviously made the mistaken assumption that these are your average panem et circenses walleyes. Nothing could be further from the truth. As I hasten about the office this afternoon, I find myself debating whether these walleyes would prefer a Malbec to a Bordeaux, or Beethoven to Schubert with their evening meal. To contaminate this privileged community with HBG would be like....like....like inviting Bob-O to the Symphony on "Flutist Appreciation Night". It wouldn't be pretty.

I was able to keep it to a smile and low chuckle until the Bob-O reference surfaced. Full on guffaws.
You win, although I'm not sure that invoking such imagery isn't cheating.

Slam hilljack !!!! I once saw the Ft Wayne Philwhormonic Orchastra perform with the Moody Blues. Even got dressed up. Now you can take your high brow WE to see Bach and feed em Winkin Owl out of a box but me and my Redneck WE prefer Pegan Pink ripple and Lynard Skynard!! And if your talkin refined and proper, I favor that artist fella that cut off his ear and gave it to a woman of ill repute. Now that's dedication.

Hmm, mine must be on the gobment handout program. Little lazy buggers haven't even finished off the FHM in the pond, and are not what I would call thriving. I suspect they only get off their duffs to take in a beer or sit and watch the perch do all the work. Skynard may be too refined for their tastes. Probably down with Micheal Jackson or Boy George or something.
