I've been feeding my fish for a few weeks now and today my white catfish started coming up to feed and I know it sounds crazy but I think I'm going to enjoy feeding and watching my fish grow more than catching them

Doesn't sound crazy at all! In fact, it sounds entirely normal!

By "white catfish", I presume you mean Albino Channel Catfish. (White Catfish look similar to a Blue or Channel Catfish, but stay smaller White Catfish Taxonomy )

Every one of us feels the same way. it's kinda addictive.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Same here. If it were only for the fishing, I got lots of places I could fish. Feeding the fish and puttering around doing things with the pond and surrounding area are what I like best.

As far as the fishing, I've been targeting 4-5" BG to transfer out of my main pond to an old pond where I've been trying to get the upper hand on the GSF and bullhead population. I really enjoy sitting down with a number 10 or 12 hook (I like cricket hooks with the long shank)with a bit of "Slim Jim" on it and catching 20 or 30 BG to transfer, then catching as many 3-4" GSF to kill and feed the CC out of the old pond. Then every once in a while I catch a 8" BG on that small hook and 4# test line and that is pretty exciting.

But if the fishing is all there was to it, I probably would not be a pond owner.

A fellow can figure out a lot of things by just stopping long enough to observe the fish while they're feeding. Shoot, some of it might even pertain to ponds/fish.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

My dad is always asking me if I caught and ate any of my "pets" lately. I wouldn't want to remove any fish except that it is necessary for the health of the pond.

They need to be caught be for 3 pounds or they start eating fish and will get tough and bad to eat. If one is caught you need to keep it because it may never bite a hook again. One time and they wise up FAST.

CWADEER I set up a fishing pond at the beginning and ended up watching my fish also. Funny how this change snuck up on me.

Haha me too me and my little girl worked so hard on this pond and now we both have a chair by the pond and watch the fish eat in the evenings I love this time with her and the fish. I grew up fishing farm ponds around the house but it's different when it's yours and you put so much work into it and watching your baby's grow hahaha or its different for me at least didn't think it was going to be like this I'm really new at all this so maybe it's just the excitement of the new pond

When that little girl gets older she won't forget this stuff. Keep at it. How old is she?

She's 6 and she loves it we've built all the structure together anything I do out there she wants to be with me sometimes it makes it a little harder on me but I wouldn't have it any other way I even let her stay home from school when they brought the fish the wife didn't like that but I told her all the work we put into this there's no way I'm going to make her miss the fish going in
