How many should be stocked in a 5 acre pond with BG, YP, Redbrest sunfish, WE, SMB and fathead minnows.

If it was my 5 acre pond, zero.

It all depends on your goals and how many you think you'll be taking out annually. Just remember, once they surpass about 3#, they will be competing with Bass for food (i.e. live fish).

I'll give you the looks and easy to locate part. Catching might be another thing if they're caught and released a few times.

I learned already. NEVER LET A CC GO. I had to drain the pond over it.

A few people around here learned the same lesson! Luckily I haven't had any recruitment, but I still have a few to remove.

With the warm weather, maybe it's time to break out the trot line and jugs!

I have been too with luck . The one CC had a ton of eggs in her. I thought they were early spawners????? Last week RES on beds and now CC. We had a lot of rain since I saw the RES they are now gone. I assume the rain and higher water level put an end to that. I now have to wonder if the CC will find a suitable place for spawning.

I don't think 25 would cause much issue, just keep in mind what has already been posted. Albino CC are interesting to watch. I have 7 in a 0.34 acre pond. The only time I see them in the last few minutes of light when they will come up to the surface to feed. Other than that, they stay hidden. They seem to know they are brightly colored and easy targets...

I still have 2 left from a stocking of 100 that went in 15 to 20 years ago. The kids call them Hoovers since they vacuum the feed off the top.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

About 12 pounds each. I had another one but my Grandson shot it with a bow. I bet him $5 that he couldn't hit it at about 40 ft.

The fish and I both lost. I tried eating one a couple of years ago. It was like chewing on a rubber ball.

I love them just got to know how to cook. Try cutting away the yellow flesh and soaking the fillet in buttermilk overnight. Drag through cornmeal salt and whatever you like else and fly golden brown.

IMO, after about 3#, catfish ain't so great to eat. Now a 1-2 pounder, there's some tasty vittles. I've eaten 10+.. sure, fun to catch, but they get so ... catfishy, greasy, not so flaky
