I have burmuda grass that is growing up from the bottom of the pond reaching the surface. I have pulled it a few times but it grows back. The root sytem seem deep so I am basically just mowing it. I though it would eventually drown out and die. But it seems to persist. Any thoughts on what to do to get rid of it. It is growing out pretty far out from the shore.

I would also think it would die out. I know it can't take the heat very well. Maybe it like the wet?

I have seen it growing around the edges of ponds from the shore line before, kind of reaching out into the water before.

This pond is differant it was let go partially dry and then flooded. The grass growing was established on moist to dry soil then flooded. It is not dieing back even after over two months of being submerged under a couple feet of water and continues shooting sprouts to the surface.

Has any one dealt with this before?

Bobby, I have the other problem for sure. My Bermuda dies when the water table rises.

How tall was the Bermuda that's still growing? Did the grass stay above the water level, or was it completely submerged, then grow up to the surface?

Wow, I've tried to get my Bermuda to chase the water level drop down for several years. I've never seen it do what yours is doing.

Hi Bobby,
I'm not saying it isn't burmuda grass, but I'm sorta with FireIsHot; I've never seen bermuda grass grow in/under/on water for sustained periods.
Can you post a close-up photo of the plant (a single piece or strand held in your hand)?
I've sometimes used the descriptor of "small-leafed burmuda grass" to describe southern naid.

with out a doubt its not southern naid.
I will get some pictures for you. In my opion it's a terrestrial grass that was flooded and is persisting by shooting sprouts to the surface to breath.

I will get pictures tonight aftert work ..Thanks for any assistance.

I've got some torpedograss in my lawn and gardens. The greenery diea away easily with glyphosate but is difficult to totally eradicate in one dose as it has large rhizomes. The addition of the imazapyr would help get a better kill.
