I have a 1 acre pond ranging in depth from 5 to 10 feet. I have had some algae crop up from time to time but the pond seems to take care of it w/out my intervention. I live in southeast Texas and it gets pretty hot in these parts. I don't know that I absolutely NEED an aeration system but I was hoping some of the floating fountains (my wife would love the addition, esp. with some lights since our house backs up to the pond). Hoping to have the decorative effect with some added aeration as a bonus. Anybody have some experience with these? Example I am looking at is the Kasco Xstream 2400fs 1/2HP floating fountain.

Hey TX,

I have not had any experience with fountains, I can tell you what I have read on PBF about them.

They are pleasing to the eye specially ones with lights for sure! Are they real effective in aeration of your pond.... ehh. by themsleves no not really. I guess it depends on what your looking for.

1. If your looking for more looks then effectivness then fountains it is.

2. If your looking to keep your BOW mixed 100 percent with good D.O. levels then bottom aeration is the way to go. Your fish will apprecaite it!.

3. Some would argue that fact that where you live you may need both to really keep from any possible fish kills in your pond.

The other thing that some folks don't think about is with fountains you have a LOT of evaporation going on in the air with your pond water. I know here in Arkansas when it's hot I don't want any more of my pond water evaporating any faster then it needs to. I'm just saying.... Maybe someone else will chime in with some more input on the fountains.

Good Luck,
RC

The only difference between a rut and a Grave is the depth. So get up get out of that rut and get moving!! Time to work!!
