Hey guys,

I am trying to found the first Pond website in the Turkey. I have been translating some PDF books about ponds.

I was writing about watershed and runoff waters. Then , i remembered that people built walls around their houses here. So let's say there is a sufficient watershed area around the house. But the house and the pond is covered by a strict wall. Is there a way to let runoff waters get into the pond? With pipes maybe?

Bonus question: This is a completely different situation than the one above. Let's say i want to have a pond in the middle of a metropolis. How to get more rain water in the pond? You know, my house and the pond will be covered by other houses and asphalt. No way to have watershed. Any suggestions? Maybe drain the water falls on my roof to the pond? What else can be done?

Roof collection is common, as is directing watershed that would normally not enter the pond through pipes. The only concerns you may have is inadvertently directing water away from someone else that is relying on it for farming and/or drinking water. Also try not to collect contaminated water from livestock or treated crops.

The big goal is to have your water collection ability to match or exceed your water loss through leakage and evaporation.

I see liquid. Thanks one more time. You always try to help me. Thank you.

Are there any other practical solutions such as roof collection, for someone without watershed?

I personally wouldn't collect water from an area where cars are parked due to leaks of various fluids getting washed into the pond. You could certainly pave some areas such as tennis courts, open areas, etc and put drains in them to direct water to the ponds.

The problem is a large enough area to be covered to get water may be prohibitively expensive. Roofs are easiest since they are there anyhow. Putting in an impervious barrier plus drain to collect as much water as possible gets tricky.

Some people make up water in the pond with a well. You can pump water 24/7 into your pond. May have to do a waterfall or some aerating method.

Thanks guys.

Liquid what do you mean "Putting in an impervious barrier plus drain to collect as much water as possible gets tricky." ? A barrier to the roof? How ?

Nick. My main source is well water anyways. I will have this pond in the middle of a metropolis.

The roof should already be an impervious layer, unless it leaks ;-). I am talking about something like concrete or asphalt for sports courts and parking lots.
