When should one fertilize a pond? We have huge amounts of life in our perch pond, FHM, Common shiners, Crayfish, and abundance of common local snails that are doing a number on the algae.
From new we have had about 12-18"s of visibility in the pond now this week it is gone to 3 feet. I do put in some aqua shade to keep the FA down and gives the pond a nice colour.
Kids swim in the pond all summer as well.
Should I be playing with some fertilizer or just let it be? Just noticed another hatch of very small minnows again too.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Don.
P.S. what numbers of NPK should we use if I should add some?

One more thing I should add after reading some threads on fertilization.
The FA is just about none existent in our pond. Its just around the feeder on the bottom and never gets to the point it floats and breaks off. The FA is from the feed when the perch stopped eating it and I didn't turn the feeder back for a week before I caught what was going on. The snails and crayfish could be holding it back this year. Last year we had lots and we would scoop it out with a pool net and pole.
Cheers Don.
