Happy O Canada Day (July 1) to all of our friends north of the border.

We were privileged to have two from north of the border join us this past week, as they traveled from central and western Canada to the central--eastern Lower 48, so they could fish in Canadian waters!

On the second day (of my two short days), I was out with Blair, his equally happy brother Deano, and Sasquatch Al (FireIsHot). We were with the same Captain that Bruce, Yolksac and I were with the day before. He is a rather crusty dude, but a fantastic guide.

On that second day, there were times when all ten poles were jiggling like crazy. The crusty old captain, with 28 years of this kind of guiding experience, shouted out salty orders of what to do. I was put in the "timeout" corner several times as he kept preparing lines and getting fish on ice. He made sure we always had the maximum number of legal lines in the Canadian waters, even as we were bringing in fish.

It was intense. It was fun. It was really fun to be on the same boat with our two northern neighbors, FireIsHot, and fishing-crazed Captain Ray.

Each day with this Captain Ray, I think we were the first ones in, with full limits. Not only did we catch our limit of big walleyes, we also caught a heck of a lot of sheepshead, white bass, and yellow perch. We were exhausted after 5-7 hours of fishing.

What an experience! You missed a good one.

It was actually kind of surreal. It was hard to imagine we were in Canadian waters. It was much like being in the Gulf of Mexico, between Pensacola and St Petersburg. Nearly the same water color, nearly the same weather, etc.

I could post some pics from two months ago when the lake wasn't so flat, the weather not so warm, and the water no so clear. Actually the water clarity wasn't that bad, had seen it where visibility was less than 2". Glad you guys had a good time out there and the weather cooperated. The great lakes can get nasty in a hurry.

Lost my post again. It just vanished into thin air while typing. WTF?

Anyway, best time I have ever had in my life was working charters on LM with my BIL.

Do you possibly have my problem? I'll write something, preview it, read it, and go on with life after I've made corrections. A few hours later I find that I never submitted the post. Yeesh!

P.S. Do you wear your tinfoil hat when posting?

Most of my family lives at the "head of the lakes" -- Duluth, MN/Superior,WI. They were sending me photos of how flat and smooth Lake Superior was at that time. The beaches were whiter than those on the much warmer gulf coast.

At that point they still had 56 inches of solid ice in the harbor!

Sorry, 3 days late.....

Eh? You are really only about a day late or less. Our northern cousins are so close to the North Pole they live a much slower pace of life, making them half-fast compared to those of us in the middle latitudes of the the lower 48.

This time of year it even takes them longer to get to nighttime. Life is so slow up there, the sun sets long after it sets down here.

I guess that is what makes them the 3rd happiest country in the world.

I hope all of our northern friends had a great day yesterday. Tomorrow is our day to relax and enjoy life.

The lake our cabin is on in Rhinelander had the ice just go out the week I was on Lake Erie. They had a long cold and snowy winter up there. We had a drift over 8' tall and a 400' long in our driveway so we couldn't get propane in there and ran out during the winter. Let's just say my dad and brother in laaw didn't get it drained completely last winter and I spent 2 days replacing a toilet and repairing 11 different leaks in the plumbing.

We've had a number of great walleye meals since our informal Pond Boss "international trip" from US waters to catch walleye on the Canadian side of Lake Erie, along with some of our good Canadian Pond Boss friends with us.

Anyway, I'm about to go weed-whack my ponds after having left-overs from last night. I cooked just one filet last night -- 13 oz. I cut it into 10 chucks and deep fried it. I made fries from fresh plucked russet potatoes and beets from the garden, plus fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. Lynda is out this evening with our granddaughter, but there were four fish chunks and some beets left for my evening dinner. More cucumbers and tomatoes too!

Time to go back out mowing and weed whacking.

Dang, I'm so grateful to know so many great Pond Boss friends who like to go fishing.
