The situation is that my grandparents are looking to renovate an old pond they have on their land. It is 410x120 ft so about an acre. The original idea was to drain and lower the pond from 4ft to 8ft. Someone who was trying to give us an estimate said to lower the costs we should raise the banks to give it an extra foot (5ft) and then use a bachhoe to dig the edge down to about 8 ft. The guess was that it could reach 20ft on each side so that deepens 40ft out of 120ft. Its not my pond or money so I won't try to influence the decision but is this second method worth attempting? It just seems like its almost a waste of money. Looking to stock mainly CC for eating along with BG and LMB.
If the second idea wouldn't work would the acre at 8 ft work well?

The best bet is to just add to the top of the dam. It's not quite as simple as just dumping dirt on top. You would need to mix the old top soil with new loam to make it hold.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
