Folks,

For the past two days, we've had a single duck just hanging around in a neighbor's yard, on a somewhat busy country road. No water in the immediate area. Duck has crossed the road several times, and is lucky to still be alive.

Duck just walks around quacking in the yard.

Woman (wife) wants to try and help.

Any suggestions?

Unless it gets run over, it will just fly away. My guess is that the rest of the duck's family was probably a snack for some other critter in the neighborhood.

Thanks, Ken.

This seems to be an adult duck.

Don't know why it has not flown away. Could be injured too.

How do you catch one?

Most domestic ducks can't fly, too heavy. Domestic geese are the same way.

Long fishing net if it can't fly.

I usually catch ducks with a 12 ga and steel shot......

Hen or Drake duck? They do go thru a period where they are flightless because of moulting their feathers, but I thought it was a little bit later on in the summer.

We don't think this duck is domesticated.

Woman took a video on her phone, but I'm not feeling like trying to post it.

I do have have a long handled net.

I didn't see it this morning, so we'll see if it's still hanging around.

Sounds like it's a very unique bird...and everyone knows that in order to catch a unique bird.....

.....Unique up on it.

And if it happened to be a tame bird you would catch it...

.....the tame way.

wink
