My wife has a couple of 4-5" goldfish in an aquarium that are getting to big for it. She wants to put them in the 3 acre pond.
I have no clue if they are male or female.
Our LMB are 5-9" from the one I caught and the few I have seen in the shallows. They were stocked as fingerings last November.
Put the goldfish in the pond or keep them out? She thinks it would be cool to see them once in a while out swimming in the big pond as they grow. I remember my mom putting goldfish in our old pond when I was a little kid and they lived there for quite a few years till a winter freeze did them in and froze them in the ice. They got rather large. I imagine the GSF kept any spawn in check, but I was just a tot at the time so just guessing.
I think at 100 per acre stocking and the current size of our LMB they likely would not eat these two fish but hopefully would be able to control any spawn if they happen to be one male and one female.
Bad idea? I have read of bad things happening when goldfish take over a pond, but in this case I would think the predators should have the upper hand.
Looking for advice.

I have seen goldfish grow to pretty large size...I think they will either get whacked next year which is kinda a waste, or they'll reproduce and cause issues which is another expenditure of time/resources. My pond management mandate is to control all variables I possibly can as mother nature will throw plenty more down the road which I won't be able to control. My advice would be to stock only one or buy a bigger tank for them indoors - but I'm cautious that way.

I say NAY. They will reproduce and cause problems. Now if they were Koi, that might be a different story. A clients pond is a PITA because someone put goldfish in there.
