Hello,
This is my first post but I have read allot and this website seems very informative.
I live in SE Missouri where clay is plentyful, my pond was dug 5 years ago this fall and is about 3 acres in surface water. It is about 20feet deep on the leevee end and shallows up to just a few inches on the oppisite end.
My problem is that it will not clear up, visibility is about 4 inches at best. The conservation department suggested putting about 7500 ponds of gypsum in it or I might try a few bales of alphalfa hay scattered throughout, which I just cannot see doing anything to clear up this volumn of water. The gypsum sound like it would be worth trying but how can aman spread 7500 pounds evenly through out the pond?? Area ag componies dod not sell gympsum in bulk, just in the 50 pound bag. I have read where people spread it by small boat and churning it with a 2.5 hp motor. There has to be a better and EASIER way????? Any body have any ideas???
spreader/broadcaster behind a tractor will no way sling the material far enough.
Thanks for any advice

Welcome to PB. I figure you could rent a work barge or maybe build a big raft or? Then use a gas powered water pump to blow it out into the water. That's the way they spread lime.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
