Can everybody report what you'd estimate your 2007 precipitation is of normal? 100% being average.

I'd say we're about 130% so far.

Closest on-line official data I could find was Akron, where they're about 1/2" over for the year on precipitation.

Right here, I think we're a little dryer than normal. We haven't had any serious rain for 3-4 weeks. BUT, several very large widespread showers have just missed us (by 1/2 a county or less), so I think this area of Ohio as a whole is wetter than normal.

Oh, per request, I think I'm 90%, surrounding areas 110%.

Just got flooded! Ughhh.

4.6 inches since this morning and more on the way.

Dock is under water. Water is pure chocolate. Feeders partially under the water.

More later.

Less than 30% in my part of SW Miss. Only 2 1/2 inches Thurs. nite and Fri afternoon. Baton Rouge and towns within 20 miles of my pond got 6-8. There has been no more than 6 inches since 2 5in. rains in Nov. a week apart.

I am in my 7th day, about 13 inches so far, the add to the pond is right at 24" I had a storm from the gulf of Thailand side for 4 days then the weather direction changed 180 and now maybe we are starting our first monsoon, it's coming from the Andaman Sea side. That is probably about on average so far, there is a province north of me that has received 39 inches in the same time period.
Bruce, I have duck and mango but need a salsa recipe.

Thanks, Rad. I'll be there tonight for dinner. \:\)

Two more inches last night. Estimated inflow 30 gallons/second. Estimated outflow maximum of 15 gallons/second. Hello emergency spillway. Previous owner said emergency spillway used once in last 36 years. Hope it holds.

Total rain in last 24 hours is 6.6 inches. My all time previous record was 3.8.

Sounds like you're getting a very good flushing, Bruce. I'll keep my fingers crossed there's no erosion damage to the dams.

Bruce that is good -- I hear the sound of old water flushing - flushing , flushing away all the excess ammonia , N , P , K and muck. George would give his - well ugggh (better not say that) away for a flushing event. \:o

I told Bill we shouldn't have done that rain dance before we closed the gate Thursday morning but he said it was the least we could do.

Quick - reverse your pump and inject some of the excess water underground for later use.

Had 3.5 inches in the overnight, which wouldn't have been bad, but everything is already saturated.

Vernal pond has said goodbye.

Emergency spillway on pond is going first time since 1996.

Went to the farm and found I had overestimated rainfall during the night. I had measured 4.6 yesterday and the radar made me think I had 2 inches last night but I only had 1.2, so my total for 26 hours was 5.8 inches. The water was still below the emergency overflow by a little bit and it was really cranking through the outflow tube at an easy 500 gpm. Water's muddy, and there's lots of nasty erosion, but still managable so far. More rain predicted for tonight.

Has anyone ever lowered their water level with the drain in anticipation of heavy rain?

I think some gulf coast PMs did it before Katrina & Rita hit - very prudent in that kind of situation.

Bruce,

I hope I didn't seem insensitive with my rain dance comment. I feel for you. At first I didn't know your feeders were partly submerged and you had serious erosion. Wow sure is different then when Bill and I were there. Hope you get everything on line soon as far as feeders etc. Is feast or famine the norm for your part of the country? When's the last time you had rain like this?

Did you send some water to your friendly neighbor?
