there is a pond located partially on my property and i am wondering how i can determine if a underwater spring may be located near the pond or actually under it? any advise is appreciated.

Your state should have list of wells in your area and whether they are in a confined layer that is conducive to a spring. The best source of information is a local well driller.
Is there any history of springs in your area that you know of? You probably know this, but you will need to have what is known as a confined layer, that is water under pressure of a layer of limestone or heavy clay. This trapped groundwater under pressure receives water from a higher elevation, but doesn't let it out unless there is a well drilled into it or some kind of fracture, or sand lenses typically but not always at a lower elevation.

Are you in flatland or hilly country?
Around here its hills and ravines, and with a trained eye you can look and guess where the underground springs are.
But in flats it might just be a low spot.

It certainly would during times of the year when the spring is a much different temp than the pond. A pic of the pond would really help. If its a round pond, that's tough. But if it has coves, like fingers or cuts, there are the underground springs, right where those places end. Around here at least. But this may not be the case at all in your area.

If that is the case it would be a surface spring which would not be a reliable water source during a dry period woykd it not. I would think one would want a deeper more reliable source of spring water that is tied into an aquifer. Also contrary to popular belief grround water in a particular area is all the same temperature, which is equal to orclose to your annual mean temperature. I.e. my annual mean temp is 52 F. and my ground water is 51.6 F.

I would think having a spring tied to the aquifer and entering the pond at a deep elevation would give you a ground-water pond that would fluctuate with the aquifer, while having a spring near the surface would be like having a transient stream that ran into your pond, providing water when the spring was running, but not taking it away during dry times?

I must have misunderstood. I thought he was just looking for a source of water as a spring, not necessarily tied into the pond.
I would never want a spring in the bottom of my pond due to the potential of it reversing due to the hydraulic weight of the water.
