Pond in NE Ohio is almost 2 years old. Stocked with BG, HBG and some sort of Bass last spring. Approx 0.15 Surface acre, 1.1 Acre-feet. Lots of clay in our area.

Water is murky, muddy, greenish. Added dye about a week ago and also purchased and installed an aerator, today is day 8.

The wind was blowing pretty hard yesterday blowing the floating murk to one side. The attached picture is what it looked like besides the duck feathers and leaves, I'm concerned with the brownish muck. After seeing this I took a rake and went around the edges of the pond and raked out mostly leaves, didn't really see any stringy algae or other plant growth at least not 3 or 4 feet within reach.

Is this just debris or some sort of algae growth that I need to treat?

With that muck in my pond it is light fine dirt from the wind and the worked farm land around. I spread hydrated lime and it balance's it out and it will sink to the bottom. Gone the next day.

This what I do and it works.

Cheers Don.

We only have two ducks.

I did see some of that stringy green algae around the edges yesterday.

The murky muddy look is due to the ducks. A neighbor had a 1/4 acre pond with a pair of Pekin ducks. Same problem. Coyotes got rid of the ducks and the water cleared up.

The FA is due to more nutrients in the water than any plant life in the pond could use. Duck poop is high in nutrients.
