I had the edges of my pond all cleaned out. The whole pond was overrun with cat-tails when I bought it. My friend has a mini excavator and cleaned out everything around the edges.

Well I was thinking about planting something in the pond and manage one corner of with some plants. We have one corner that all the water flows in from rain and its a little mushy. I was thinking of planting something back in that corner for small fish to hide and place for my frogs to take cover. What would I be looking for. I don't want anything that is going to get really tall nor spread aggressive. I used to manage our water garden pond at home but I'm afraid those plants may take over.

Take a look at Arrowhead or Pickerelweed. Those might be two possibilities.

I think I may try few of those and a couple hardy lilies out about 4 ft in the water.. Now if I was trying to make a good nesting area for the bluegill should I dump some pea gravel in that corner or a different corner.

Regarding the gravel for the BG. You can put the pea gravel where you think is best, but the BG might not agree. It's hard to determine where the BG will spawn, until you observe them spawning in your pond. I've made areas for them and they've ignored those areas, just to use them 2-3 years down the road.
