Well, I finally got my hands on some gypsum. 40lb bag for $6.95, I tried it last night by taking some pond water and putting it in a 1 gallon milk jug and added 3 tablespoons of gypsum slurry. Checked it 12 hours later and it had'nt changed a bit. \:\( Still as muddy as ever. What does this mean? Should I go with the alum instead? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

add more, wait another 12 hours and check again.it will clear the water, you just need to find the amount your water needs to clear it up.you are rushing things if you are allready giving up on the gypsum.you might have to even add it a 3rd time to find the correct amount to clear your water.

update: I added 2 tablespoons of gypsum to a 1 gallon jug of clear water, I then added about 12oz. of the slurry to a 1 gallon jug of pond water. 12 hrs. later the pond water was crystal clear \:D ! So, now i need to know how much gypsum to add to my pond? Its about .25 acres and 4-5 avg depth.

good news,i think i got the formula from mark at wildlife & fisheries in baton rouge 225-765-2336/2337.call over there and they will be able to help you with converting your numbers to the correct formula.if you cannot get mark ask anybody in this dept.and they will find someone to help you.i've also seen it several times over the years on this site,wl&f might be the fastest way.got to thinking last night and a friend of mine put, i think about 200 pounds in a pond about your size with no luck, then something like 3-4 days later he added another 200 pounds and 2 day's later his water was clear.you can buy gypsum at dodge city farm supply in denham springs,i thing it's about 4-$5.00 per bag.
