Saw an article today about the salvinia infestation of Caddo Lake in East Texas and Louisiana... http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/30/us/30lake.html?ref=us Has this affected any ponds out there? Looks nasty.

Nasty. Gives me the chills. It looks just as invasive as water hyacinth, also from South America.
The outlook is not good unless an insect can be found to infest it and help slow it down. But then, you have to worry about the insect. I wish we could have a do-over on invasive species, starting back in the mid 1800's.

It is mean stuff. Kelly Duffie of Estes Chemicals warned about this stuff last year.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

The BarO has a little waterleaf around the edges ....luckily none of this stuff.
20 acres of trees & 3/4 acre pond.

If not the salvinia, looks like the lotus would cover everything. Shoulda got after it long before now. bobad, whats wrong with foreign flora. What would we do without kudzu?
