I'm going to use some cutrine plus to try and kill FA. Does anyone know what kind of impact it will have on the snail population? I have RES in my pond and I wouln't want to kill all of my snails. I seem to have a fair number of snails, my kids are always playing with them around the dock. I havn't caught any RES since I stocked the pond but I haven't really fished for them and I'm reasonably sure that some probably survived the initial stocking and I'm concerned about starving them if I kill all of the snails. I did a search for cutrine and read the threads but I haven't found anything that address this issue. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Joe Street.

Don't know about Cutrine's affect on snails, but RES do eat stuff besides snails. They're good at eating snails, but that's not all that they live on.

IF you follow label directions the amount of copper in a treatment of Filamentous algae with GRANULAR Cutrine plus will not kill snails. You should not use liquid Cutrine plus to treat an infestation of filamentous algae. The liquid form will distribute throughout the entire water column of the pond and the filamentous algae is not uniformly distributed throughout the entire pond; probably just in the shallowest areas.

Common sense is to just treat the areas infested with the filamentous algae that way less toxic chemical is used to improve the problem. Filamentous algae will always grow when water conditions favor its growth.

If you really want to use a safe herbicide for snails, zooplankton and invertebrates then try the GreenClean brand of granular algae herbicide by - biosafesystems.com
