djstauder,

I got skunked as far as my targetted fish this weekend, bad wind and tide........
My sister caught some yellow mouth sand trout in the river and kept a few. She put them in a wire fish basket and they got pretty beat up.
One made it to the pond and survived intaial transition to fresh water. I released it. It was seen the next day breaking the surface..
Either dieing or feeding not sure. if dieing not sure if from very rough handling or fresh water intolerance...

I will continue to try and source some speckled sea trout ...

realsed one bait mullet I had left with a tail trim....Got nailed by tarpon....

A little pond management this weekend, some bricks for some crayfish or critter habitats. Another eel grass cage and a couple predators to stock. Cast net in tow, I have an idea for grass carp removal ....

Yes they did..I grabbed my heavier bait caster by mistake so it kind of manhandled them in,,,Probably why I was able to land them now that I think about it...The larger one was way stonger though...I realeased both and they seemed fine...

Also , I forgot to mention the Jack Crevalle took a stike at a lure for me but didnt stick...But I saw it, it looked healthy and was obviously feeding./...

I'm still amazed that you are able to acclimate the brackish species to pure fresh water. Good job man!!!!!!!

Well done!

TJ,
I have given some thought to that idea. I am going to give a little more time and development so I have a little more to say about results.

It would be fun to see people in the right climate stock Jack Crevalle as bounus sport fish sorta how Hybrid stripers stocked..

I read that the FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission) has considered offering small snook to stock in private waters. This would be awesome as sport and table fare for pond and lake owners. I doubt the funding will develope for this but a private hatchery is a differant story...Any one with a lot of money that wants to try and start up a hatchery im in to help out...

Might have been good that ya got em in quick. I'm in Bradenton now and have to chuckle when the weather people brag about this cool fall weather. 86 today and sweated profusely just spraying weeds.

Yeah, it played just fine for me.

Nice looking flounder... Amazing how quickly they can blend in to their surroundings. What is the maximum size of that species of flounder?

Interesting, says they tolerate temps down to 5 degrees C. Hopefully your pond stays warmer than that in the cold months.

It does . Unless we get one of those 20-30 year record colds like we had 4 years ago.
I am hoping the artesian well at 72 degrees will keep that corner of the pond as a refuge...
The other fish are even a bit more sensitive so I am hoping for the best. I know they are resident fish in the interacoastal and river year round. They find warm pockets and deep holes during the very short freezes we get. ....

Yeah, there are some warm springs that help those river systems out... I am very interesting to see how the warm water loving fish in your pond fair during a few cold winters.

Please verify: tarpon, snook, flounder and redfish can live in fresh water? I mean, it seems obvious by your photos...but I want to make certain I'm not missing anything like your pond has access to brackish backwaters or high salinity, etc. You are merely acclimating them to fresh water incrementally?
