... as of a hour ago. He wasn't feeling right and went to the hospital. They want to keep him for a few days. Pneumonia is suspect, but I'll bet it has something to do with mold. Basement got really wet this spring. Long story, but it should have all been cleaned up. That's what I was told anyway. I stopped by last Sunday. The furnace is running and it draws cold air from the basement. I could smell it, not much, but still present. It don't take long for this to circulate and build up in a closed home. The Quacks up here always say Pneumonia. That's how they killed my Mom!

Best wishes for your dad, JKB. May he feel better soon.

JKB, sorry to hear of your dads misfortune. Tell your docs to check foe Aspergillious (spelling?) I got a dose of it and they had to cut out my left lung. Mold is VERY serious. If they don't come up with proof positive of something, GET A DIFFERENT DOC! Best wishes, you'll be prayed for.

My thoughts are with you and your Dad, JKB.

Hope your dad will be O.K.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

JKB I hope your dad will be ok. You might consider putting a dehumidifier in the basement. We had a cottage with the lower floor built into a hill. After remodeling we put new furnishings in it, came back in a week and it was all mildewed from the moisture. A dehumidifier fixed that problem.
I used to cut firewood in my woods and once in a while I would run into a hollow tree with bird droppings in it. I came down with a breathing cough problem that lasted for a couple of years. The docs thought pneumonia but I always thought it was histoplasmosis spores from the bird droppings I inhaled.

JKB, hoping for a quick recovery for your dad.
You can get an environmental consultant who deals with mold to check out the basement if you suspect it wasn't cleaned up properly. Your local health department shoulc be able to recommend someone.

If it is mold, once the spores become airborne they can also get into your ventilation system as well so I hope you're able to seek the good advice given here on getting it checked out.
I hope it's not too serious and I too hope for a full and speedy recovery!

Prayers sent. Have them re-check the basement, AND get the ductwork cleaned in the house. I also think a dehumidifier for the basement is in order.

If they confirm Pneumonia, then it is not the house. If it is Pneumonia, hopefully it is bacterial and can be fought off with antibiotics. Pneumonia is nothing to take lightly, even in these days of modern medicine, and be sure he is on the mend before they let him go! I have firsthand stories, both good and bad, so be vigilant.

I was going to update this next Sunday on his 84th birthday. They did confirm pneumonia and he responded very well to the treatment. He was released early last week while a bit wobbly, but is pretty much back to normal now. Thanks All for prayers and concerns. Many blessings to everyone!
