Everyone says to stock HBG but isn't this direct competition for food against SMB,LMB and other fish. They are half GSF. I just wouldn't want them eating all my fhm and gsh. Any thoughts?

Yes, HBG especially as they get large are very effective predators on FHM. Far less effective predators on GSH though. As far as "everyone" on the forum saying to stock them, I've not seen that. I see them being recommended under certain circumstances and goals. Generally that is in a HBG\HSB\CC stocking combo where supplemental feed is fed or with LMB where the goal is to grow large sunfish, not bass...

HBG work well in small ponds where limited reproduction of predators is very helpful and people want to pellet feed. Same goes for HSB.

HBG can be voracious predators, and bigger specimens will readily take FHM.

Of course, when we talk of ENHANCED Brim, such as those produced in southern Indiana, then things bump up a notch or two. These fish consider forage to be, but not limited to.... RES, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, muskrats, small nervous dogs that bark a lot, fawns, and the occasional child who insists upon playing in the campfire.

You're never truly safe from an ENHANCED Brim.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Is an ENHANCED brim a GSF crossed with a great white shark?

While HBG may eat slightly larger forage fish than regular BG, don't discount the piscivious foraging nature of the regular normal 'ol BG. I've caught 10" Bg on 2 1/2" long BG shaped/colored crankbaits.

Sadly, no, CJ.

It is appropriate that on the night the Georgia Giant thread gets resurrected, you should be questioning the correctness [and punctuation] of the claims surrounding ENHANCED brim. However, since my testosterone level is just now approaching normal levels after the last time I engaged in a written confrontation with Sparky, won't risk further comment on the matter.

I think a Bull shark, with their ability to tolerate freshwater, would make a much better candidate. laugh

Yolk I'm sorry to hear about the hormone deficiency, but I'm very glad you're on the mend as I value your thoughts on the matter. I'm certainly no physician, but I believe they make a topical salve, or perhaps ointment, that might help. grin

Wishing you a continued speedy recovery from ENHANCED Brim country.
