Will grass carp eat cat tails?
I have an infestation! Any suggestions?

Spray 'em.

The "Esshup recipe":

For small areas, start with a product that contains 50% glyphosate and mix 1 quart with 2 gallons of water, then add 2-3 ounces of a non-ionic surfactant such as Cygnet Plus or Cide Kick II and spray to "wet" (i.e. the mixture is running off of the cattails). For larger areas mix an 8% solution of glyphosate/water and use 2 quarts of surfactant per 100 gallon of tank mix.

Hi, BOCOMO, Do you have a recommendation for a brand of 50 percent glyphosphate?

Refuge worked for me. I feel like I should plug Esshup here since he helped me out so much. He does sell these products in his online store.

Sure, they eat but they prefer other weeds. At least that's my experience. In a pond with poor vegetation they enjoyed cattails (well, there wasn't much other stuff to eat) but in the other pond they didn't even look at them because of other weeds.

I just had all of mine dug out with little bobcat. Worked out great and got rid of a lot of muck around the edges and only cost about $300.

The only critter I've found that can effectively control cattails would be muskrats...and they come with their own problems which IMHO are much worse than cattails.

Common carp is also a fighter against cattails. I often find flowing cattail roots - it's done by them.
Sure, they eliminate only a part of these weeds and they don't do that by a certain plan smile
They also bring up other problems - muddy water, and so on.
Seems like that these fish anyway aren't very popular among American pond owners.
