I would like to remove some of the pondgrass (Sago I think) from my 1/2 acre pond.

Has anyone had any experience with a product like this? Or can you recommend any other method for mechanical removal?

I have used that cutter. It works best on weeds that will float after they have been cut. It will even cut reeds and water lily stems. The blades are extremly sharp. You must be carefull when using it and cleaning weed stems off the blades. I have used it for eel grass and curly leaf pondweed, and long leaf pondweed. If you are not very careful, you can very easily put a deep cut in your hands or fingers when using it. It should work okay on sago pond weed. The cutting range is limited by how far you can throw it out into the pond from shore.

I would think that you should only have to cut & clean out the sago pond weed only once each year to maintain clear areas in the pond. I am not sure of the best time to cut sago pondweed, but I think it would be right before or after it sends seeds to the surface. Regrowth for that year should then be minimal.

I have used it along with the rake and when the weeds float it works fine. If the rope is too short wade out a bit. I have cut myself quite a few times so watch it.

I've never cut myself but I've had the rope break after heavy use. Keep an eye on the connection where the rope is connected to the shaft.

I've used it really well for cutting down cat tails after I treated them with herbicide and they turned yellow.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

My cutter is identical to the one in the picture and I have found it to be indispensible in my weed clearing tasks. I also have the large pond rake with a detachable float. Together they get the job done and give me a good workout too! I replaced the rope with a more sturdy nylon one. The cutter blades are indeed very sharp. A great tool!
