A guy I know is thinking of offering the seller $350 for this old pontoon boat on CraigsList. He says he wants to turn it into his pond's fixed floating dock. He says he would take off sides, maybe re-floor it. I told him he's a hillbilly!...lol What do you guys think? Pro's? Con's? ps: not sure how the heck he'd move it there is no trailer, but it's not far from his place. http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/boa/4010367661.html

That should make a great floating dock ('barge'), -- assuming the pontoons are still in reasonable shape and don't leak. Everything else can be reasonably replaced or repaired. The price seems more than fair. I'd love to find a deal like that for my small pond.
Moving it shouldn't be a problem either. If a friend with an equipment trailer can't be found, just call a towing company. They will generally charge $1-$2 per mile, plus setup.

Makes a great dock! Anchored by just four poles, added a walkway, chained to the shore and extremely stable! I'd love to find another one that cheap!

I need to find me one of those at that price. I am a hillbilly so I would have no qualms about it. Just the logs sell here locally new for $375. Plus they want $75 a piece to shorten them for my pond.
If you ain't gonna fart, why eat the beans? . RES,HBG,YP,HSB,SMB,CC,and FHM. .seasonal trout.

A pontoon boat for a floating dock is a heck of a good idea. That never ever interned my mind. An aluminum one would be almost upkeep free.

If you want one, they’re not hard to find. Just google “salvage boat auction” or some variation and you will find several sites that auction off damaged and salvaged boats of all kinds. Here is an example of an insurance claim from a highway rollover in Texas that will auction next week. http://www.copart.com/c2/homeSearch.html...=SEARCH_RESULTSFrom my salvage days, it seems there was a disproportional number of pontoon boat salvages. I think because many owners bought their first boat late in life when they had the time and money to do so, and they most often bought them without a trailer so they couldn’t get them out of the water during bad weather. They would get hung under the dock or end up on the dock. This hurricane season has been quite so far but it may heat up next month, start watching now and you might snag one for a winter project.

I think that would make an awesome dock.
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

Hey is that my favorite breed of dog in the pic? (Border Collie) Glad to help. It was the cheap and quickest method for us. Yes the dog is a Border Collie. That's the only breed of dog we are allowed to have.
