Hi all, can anyone tell me what hooks to use with stubby steves baits, I have tried many hooks but they all sink, also the orginal cnbg are 1year and 3 months old. they average 7-8 inches, and are between 6-8 ounces does this sound about right? Thanks Danny

They'll float with a #10 Owner Mosquito hook on #2 or #4 test line. NO swivel. That's what I use.

Sounds about right if stocked as fingerlings.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I'm with Dave - catch more on sinkers than floaters. Floating Stubbys will result in hook shy fish. G/

I'm not real picky, but I've recently been using use a #6 light wire hook on a fly rod with floating fly line. The SS's still sink, but slowly. With the floating line, a slow retrieve will help keep it from sinking too deep but when I think it has, I just raise my rod tip and bring it back up. It doesn't seem to matter to my HBG and BG whether it's sinking or being retrieved (slowly). This method works best if it's feeding time, too.

Oh, my smart-a$$ wife who's checking this out over my shoulder says, "just cast it out with a bobber and wait", but with my method I out-fish her everytime, which I am enjoying tremendously 'cause historically, it's almost always been the other way around.

G/ Not understanding why it creates hook-shy fish? ___ My trout in the spring never did take pellets that sank. Only if they floated. Suppose it's one of things where every situation is different. I also have put two pellets on the hook to help it be more buoyant.

I believe "it all depends" on water clarity. Sight feeding on surface pellets conditions hook shy fish - fish food smell (attractant) on sinkers. - IMO

I've seen fish come up to a pellet where the hook is sticking out of it and turn away. Both floating and sinking, but see more turning away from the floating one.
