I am new the this sight and hope someone can help me figure out what to do. Last summer we had a devastating fire. The fire left most of the vegetation burned and no ground cover. Following the fire we had a huge rain storm that washed the ash into the streams and ponds, killing every living organism. The water that feeds the ponds have cleaned up but when anything disturbs the water the ash mud flows into the ponds. Moss seems to be the only living thing that is making a come back. My question is when would in be safe to restock trout or would it be best to reintroduce freshwater scrimp the establish a food source before restocking.

Would recommend a comprehensive water quality test first.

You need the pond water /soil tested. Fires usually make the system more acid but do also add some nutrients. Your natural alkalinity may be enough to offset problems. The washing in of organic material often results in O2 depletion and fish kills.
