I did some paddle boating around the lake yesterday. I was surprised how many little fry are in the water. These little guys have been busy in the past few weeks. I rolled over a floating piece of debris and found eggs all over the underside of it. They only strange thing was that I did not see a single adult. Obviously they are there, but do they hang out in deeper water than the fry? Still no sign of the shiners I put in either. I don't imagine they will spawn this year though due to their size.

Generally if predators are not present, FHM will be in deeper water. If predators are present, they start hanging out in more shallow areas. A small % of my FHM are the rosey red variety. They make it easier to spot a school, when one or two are mixed in.

That makes sense then. Thanks for the info. I would like to get some RRFHM, but I have not seen them around for sale. It definitely would make it easier to spot them.
