We are in the process of draining and drying out our pond for renovations. The remaining water is shallow and I know getting very warm/hot and stagnant. There is a new algee growing on top of the water and was just trying to identify it.

I don't know but I had the same thing growing in the bottom of a boat I have tied up to the pier.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

no way to tell for sure but again appears to be red euglena. easily treated with low concentration of Ktea or similiar liquid copper.

Since your pond is due for renovation and drying out of the bottom then I don't think it is necessary to use a chemical to kill this algae. I likely developed due to the water chemistry conditions created by theh concentrated water levels and nutrient conditions. Red algae problem should not return in the conditons of a redug and refilled pond. Nutrient concentrations and water conditions were responsible the growth of the red growth.

Thanks for the info. I am not planning on treating the algee due to renovations going to happen soon. I assumed it was due to the current low water conditions of the drained pond. I have not seen this type of growth and was just curious.
