My family has a 1/3rd acre (70'x 220') pond that is 45 years old. It is artesian well fed with about a 10-12 gallon per minute in-flow year round. We recently excavated about 2/3rds of the pond to a depth of 12-15 feet and the other third is approx 3-5 feet deep. We will aerate with two units in the shallow end so as to not mix the water too much. We desire to stock this spriong with Rainbow trout at 10-12" and feed them pellets.

I know nothing about aquatic plants yet suspect I should have somne and since 2/3rds of the ponds was dug clean, should I add some or let the ones in the shallow end spread. also, the bottom soil is very sandy with some small gravel. We want to add 200 Rainbows in april. We areate at night during the summer and full time during the early spring, late fall and winter. this keeps the surface ice free and helps keep the oxygen around 10ppm for the trout.

any good suggestions on aquatic plants and why do you select certian plant types. Are there specific plants better for trout?

1/2 acre pond in West Branch, MI. Already have stunted GSF, 5-9" YP, and plan to stock in late April: RBT, BT, HBG, SMB, FHM, and GSH

Cecil is one of our small trout pond experts. See the photo in this link as testimony of his ability. http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=002293;p=1#000005

I question the benefit of introducing submerged vegetation into your trout pond. There are pros and cons to doing this. What do you think the benefits of these weeds would be? We can discuss your ideas.
Cecil may also enter the discussion and provide his insight. I see you are getting comments on this at another topic.
