I just moved to Harvard and now I have a pond that is about a half acre u not sure on depths yet. The problem is the pond is completely overrun with carp. The water is really muddy and I don't think rotenone is an option because the inflow of water it so fast and I figure more carp will just come down the irrigation ditch anyway. So my plan was to seine as many out as I could along with fishing spearing and bow fishing. Do you think I could put a big enough dent in their population to give the bass a chance

I believe you could. You're on the right track.
Once you do, is there any way to change the flow of water in the irrigation ditch so it bypasses your pond?

Carp as a sport fish, is increasing in popularity all over the country - now called "golden bones" by many as a comparison to saltwater bone fish. Yeah, I agree - control them however you choose. I love to catch an occasional Grass Carp on the fly! G/

Thanks I just didn't want to waste my time with a carp genocide if the next year it would be just as bad I would just like to get the water to clear up a bit and be able to catch a few bass now and then

It might be an annual thing (carp entering the pond), but if you remove the current residents, any future squatters will be less in numbers and won't cause as many problems. It's easier to control a few vs. many.

scuster, hydrated lime in the inflow could still be exceptionally effective and far cheaper than rotenone, and not federally regulated.
Have you considered some sort of blocking net to help reduce trash fish entering?

I've been reading up on liming the pond and that seems lik the way to go . There doesn't seem to be much in the way of decent fish anyway I just didn't want to deal with the. Government and rotenone. Ill definatly put a screen over the inlet do you think 100 pounds for a half acre would do the job

scuster...can the pond be drained down or is the inflow constant? It will take several hundred pounds of hydrated lime applied quickly to be effective. Hydrated lime, when used to be lethal, can't be over applied. Too little and you do not get a rapid, lethal pH rise. A general rule of thumb on an amount to be lethal is add, add and add until the water turns Gin clear.

Thanks the inflow is constant and there is no. Good wy to drain the pond anyway but like is cheap so ill just add till they die I guess
