Guys this a great site and I have learned a ton in the few months I have been reading. We had our pond drained and cleaned out this summer. It is spring fed and took only 2 months to fill up. The spring is about 40 feet above the pond. I dug a couple of holes where the water comes out of the ground and then dug two trenches from each hole and had them meet right above the pond. I filled both trenches with river gravel. The spring runs all year, right through the hottest part of summer. Picking up an idea from a thread on pond boss I built a pipe from cpvc pipe for the water to enter the pond. The pipe goes from 3" to 2" to 1" with a vent pipe and shoots a full stream of water about 5 feet down into the pond (see pic). I guess my question is does this help to oxygenate the water?I have some other questions but will stop here for now.

BW,To answer your aeration question, this would not add any aeration to your pond, Is your pond 2/3 acre by any chance ??

Ted, right now the pond is 1/4 acre. Plans are to enlarge it next spring which would put it close to the 2/3 acre size. I have no power at the pond yet. It is approximately 1000 feet from the house. I would love to run power back there and am waying my options. Is there any benefit to the spring water running through the gravel & the pipe and dropping into the pond? The water is crystal clear in the pond which makes the fish awful shy.

Clear water (gravel filtered) would be better than having additional soil and lack of clarity in your pond. Some of the downside to clear water can be excessive UV penetration to soils that will start (perhaps) unwanted rooted plant growth depending on what you want out of your pond. The fish are easier to see and they spot you easier as well. The spring water will help keep the water temp lower in the summer and if aerated correctly will give you a higher DO holding capacity than a warmer or stratified pond.Keep in mind that 1000 ft distance can easily be overcome if power at the pond is being considered for aeration only. For approx $125.00 and a local hardware store you have another viable option to consider in just running an airline instead.

Thanks for replying, Ted. I have been reading some of the threads about running the airlines long distances and am considering it. If possible, I really want to run electric. I built a storage shed next to the pond that would house a breaker box and give me plent of options. I have really enjoyed working on this project and wonder now why I waited this long. Actually caught my first fish yesterday - 2 hybrid gills and 2 shellcrackers on a 1/32 oz jig. Heres a picture of the pond.

BW, you have a wonderful project started and you are doing your homework, that is but one of many great features of PondBoss.Sounds as if you will be getting some additional water from Mother Nature in a few days. Take care !!
