Is it safe to say that these are runts from last years spawn? If so, should they be avoided and larger (3"-5") BG be bought instead?

I agree with you - better go larger size. Can always toss a few adults with great body conditions to get a few spawns in this year, too. What's your fishery plan? LMB/BG?

Yes. See the thread about Coppernose Bluegills up North that I started. Do they have regular BG or only CNBG and HBG?
