My mom thinks that my new pond will be 0.25 acer because 50-50 is 1 quarter of 200 by 200 I told her she was wrong which you never want to do but I think she is wrong. how much of an acre is 50-50, and why? I think it's 0.06 acer.

acre=43,560 square feet.

50 x 50= 2500 sq feet.

2500 divided by 43560 = .057392 acres

be nice to your mom about the truth wink

Yup. 200 x 200 is 40,000 square feet. So 50 x 50 is not 25% of 200 x 200 is 6%.

Small Pond, I saw pics of your pond on another post and can't get over the fact that you dug that thing by hand! Your mom I'm sure is pretty proud of you. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT tell her the truth! Let her brag on you. When she says it's 1/4 acre, just say, "Yes, it is..." grin

1/4 acre is 100x100. An acre is 200x200 like you said (actually it's 208.710325571' x 208.710325571' but what's a few decimal places among friends?) wink grin. So draw a box 200" x 200". What's 1/4 of that box? 50"x50" or 100"x100"

So how do you figure the size when it's round? Take the complete wheeled off footage around it, divide by 3.14 and then square it, then divide by 43,560? It's been a while since I've had to do much math.

I always do it the lazyman's way...kasco marines pond sizing calculator. all you have to do is put in the shape of your pond square or circular then put in the dimensions and it does all of the work for you. it will tell you the acer ft 'the amount of water to cover 1 acer in 1 ft of water' how many surface acers your pond is, and the amount of gallons your pond holds.

I like using google planometer. It's pretty much google earth but it lets you plot out your pond exactly and gives you the square footage and acreage. It's pretty amazing.

Yes Google Planimeter is the way to go. The only challenge is to find your pond since you cannot enter an address.

If you can find your pond on here, like Dan said, this IS the easiest way that I know of. No matter what the shape.

An acre of Lake Front property on Lake Michigan could easily be in the 7 figure range.

OOPS, that wasn't the question blush
