I think I'm going to be using a small well pump to fill the new pond but I have no clue on what brand of pump and hose to use we're going to be pumping about 80 ft vertical any recommendations for a good pump, and the kind of hose to use? thanks in advance.

80 feet vertical is a LOT. That's called head pressure. What kind of power (electric) do you have at the pond where the pump will be placed?

Having a cable rated at 20 amps only means that it can't take more than that. Electric diminishes the further that it has to travel, and the smaller the wire it has to go thru.

Another question can someone even make a recommendation if the company is not an advertiser? My understanding of the rule is that a member can recommend anybody, but a business can't come on here and advertise unless they pay.

When you're talking 80', is that just the vertical distance or are you talking about horizontal distance too? Head is figured strictly on vertical distance.

that's vertical head 80' we have to pump 250' horizontal.

here's another idea could I buy a gas pump and just top off the pond when it needs it?

So you're putting in your own well SP?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

That is going to have be a hefty pump to overcome 80 feet of head.

So you're putting in your own well SP? no no no. I will simply be pumping water from the current pond to the back yard where I will be building a pond 3 times the size of the current one. should I use a high head well pump a gas pump what?

Does that 1st pond have an overflow that is also dropping down hill? I am wondering about the possibility of a ram pump? RAM PUMP

Head is figured strictly on vertical distance. May want to double check that

I looked at the videos for the ram pump really interesting but I wouldn't get nearly enough head pressure. plus with all of that clanking going on someone would find it and steal it.

It's all about pressure.
What makes you think that gravitational forces are the sole operating forces that a pump has to deal with?

What makes you think that gravitational forces are the sole operating forces that a pump has to deal with? They aren't, but fricton loss can be mitigated some by going to a larger diameter pipe.

That is true, and if you pump up and blow (vent) to atmosphere, eliminating internal pressure, it's even better as long as you never fill the pipe up where the pump has to push it thru.

I thought your neighbors might like it. It's the reverse of a burglar alarm...... when it goes silent, you know someone stole it!!!!!!

The well pump I was looking at has a 1-1/4 in outlet i'd actualy like to use garden hose can I down size the tubeing?

Down sizing would only create more pressure that the pump has to overcome, thus less flow and higher watts. Some redneck started all this on the internet

That's what I figured but I can't afford the big piping so i'll probably have to use garden hose. thanks for the imfo.

You can easily afford the black vinyl water tubing available at the hardware store, and can get it for roughly 1/2 the price of garden hose for 1" ID stuff. Fittings and all! It just cannot take kinking too well. Even if it were 2X the cost, it would pay for itself in electric savings in a short time, garden hose usually has a textured interior to some degree and is not designed to carry large quantities of water.

your right I looked into it and found it was a lot cheaper than garden hose. I found a 1/2 in tube that was 100' and only 10 dollars I figure that I can just run two tubes up to the pond witch would be the same as 1in tube Thankyou. btw I don't much care about the electric i'm only paying the upfront cost of materiel.

1/2" pipe is not half the size of 1". If you pump 5 gpm down each 250 foot half inch line you will have 22psi pressure loss on level ground. This means your pump will lose about 50 ft of vertical head just from your line alone. 1" at 10gpm gives you a pressure drop of 6.5psi and you lose 14 feet of vertical head on your pump.
You should talk to someone that sells water systems. It will probably save you some time and definitely some $$$.
