HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
305 PM EST WED MAR 6 2013 /205 PM CST WED MAR 6 2013/

...FLOODING POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK...

FLOODING IS A GROWING CONCERN FOR EARLY NEXT WEEK DUE TO A
COMBINATION OF RUNOFF FROM THE MELTING SNOW AND THE POSSIBILITY OF
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN WITH A SLOW MOVING SYSTEM.

MANY AREAS ACROSS NORTHERN INDIANA...NORTHWEST OHIO AND PARTS OF
SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN RECEIVED BETWEEN 5 AND 12 INCHES OF SNOW
TUESDAY NIGHT. THIS WAS A VERY WET SNOW WITH AN AVERAGE LIQUID
EQUIVALENT RATIO OF 10 TO 1. THIS MEANS THE LIQUID CONTENT OF THE
SNOW PACK IS LIKELY BETWEEN 0.50 INCHES AND 1.20 INCHES. THIS SNOW
WILL SLOWLY MELT THROUGH THE WEEKEND...RELEASING THIS WATER INTO
THE GROUND WHICH IS ALREADY MOIST AND NEARLY SATURATED.

A SLOW MOVING AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL APPROACH THE REGION SUNDAY
WITH A SLOW MOVING COLD FRONT IN THE AREA THROUGH MONDAY. SEVERAL
UPPER AIR DISTURBANCES WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS SYSTEM AND EACH
COULD BRING A GOOD SOAKING RAIN TO THE AREA. THERE ARE SOME
INDICATIONS THAT PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS COULD EXCEED ONE OR EVEN TWO
INCHES BY THE END OF TUESDAY.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF AN INCH COUPLED WITH THE MELTING
SNOW WOULD LEAD TO RISES ON AREA STREAMS AND RIVERS WITH FLOODING
DEVELOPING IN LOW LYING AREAS. IF RAINFALL AMOUNTS APPROACH OR EXCEED
TWO INCHES...SIGNIFICANT FLOODING COULD DEVELOP NEXT WEEK.

THIS IS STILL A DEVELOPING SYSTEM WITH UNCERTAIN DETAILS AT THIS
TIME. STAY TUNED TO UPDATED FORECASTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND LISTEN
FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES AND WARNINGS EARLY NEXT WEEK. NOW IS THE
TIME TO BEGIN THINKING ABOUT YOUR PREPARATIONS IF YOU LIVE IN
FLOOD PRONE AREAS.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

If it's like all the other rain events that we've had lately, it'll blow over without leaving much rain. I have my fingers crossed, but I don't have high hopes. It sure would be nice tho! In years past I've gone from 5' low to almost full pool in a month.

I hope you guys get it though! A nice full pool with a good non-damaging flush.

I'm mostly dug out. Fifteen inches of very heavy wet snow. Now I just have to go out and open the end of the driveway and the mailbox. A neighbor called and said the county plowed overnight.

At one point yesterday morning, we had about 11", and got lots more after that, but things warmed up and it was melting faster than it was coming down. Never even fired up the tractor, by yesterday evening I only had 3 or so inches on the driveway.

Wet & heavy snow stuck to trees and lots came down though. The kids thought someeone was in our woods shooting, but it was trees snapping from the weight of all the snow. When they suited up and went out to play, we kept them out in the open yard away from trees.

Egad! I was hoping to get the peas, onion sets, garlic and new horse radish in the ground tomorrow.

We now have a "winter storm warning" that starts in about two hours. They are calling for gusty winds and 4-8 inches of snow overnight.

I guess procrastination is good. I was planning on having all the snow moving equipment in storage as of yesterday. The tractor and its related equipment is done -- but the UTV still has the tire chains and snowplow.

Cold and windy here with highs only in the 30's and lows as far down as the teens for all of next week. Seining next week is going to be a challenge.

I wish I lived closer, I'd like to get in on some of that action...just to say I did!

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Been hearing the tree frogs more and more this past week and even saw a toad in the driveway couple nights ago. Now a day of cold rain and starting to sleet now. Supposed to turn over to snow tonite. They've gotta be getting pretty frustrated too.

We had a quick thaw a week ago, and it has been back into the ice box for us :-(. Pond froze back over, and it has been snowing on and off for the past 4 days. Combine this with my mom in the hospital and this March is going down the record books for major bummer. Now under Winter weather advisory for tomorrow.

This month has been a bummer. Hope your Mom is OK. Nothing serious?

We should be getting some snow right now, but the skies are crystal clear and you can see all the stars. It is cold out tho.

Mom has been "serious" for 6 years now with ALS. She has been in a slow decline for a long time, but it seems it is coming to a close :-(. The family has been having a tough time for a long time.

Thanks for your concern.

That is why I obsess over the pond and family as I am not wasting the time God has given me planning for an uncertain future by stuffing everything in the bank for retirement. Instead I am living now. Too many examples in my family of working for the future and never making it there.

Sorry about your mom. Hang in there. Today is the only day you can live. You can't go back and you can't jump the gun on tomorrow.

All of our trees are leafing/blooming at the same time and the pollen is very heavy. BG went from barely feeding to ravenous in one day ( Sat to Sun) with 80 F temps. Spawn will start soon.
