Hello to all I am a new member and had a couple of simple questions. I am looking for a cost effective way to repair the existing drainage in my pond.

1. What is the advantage of the existing standpipe system (with a tee and valve near the bottom of the pond) over a simple system with a pipe through the dam at the intended normal water level? Is it just not being able to drain the entire pond?

2. If the simple system is viable is there a method of pluging the existing drain without draining the entire pond?

The system with a standpipe will flow more water thru the drain pipe than a horizontal pipe without a standpipe of the same diameter.

The valve is to drain the pond down. Unless they are opened/closed at least once a year they have a tendacy to corrode closed permanently.

I know of no simple, easy, inexpensive way to plug a drain pipe so it doesn't leak.
