Finely done again Nate.
Anyone ever fished Lake Winnebago up there in Wisconsin?

Here's what's on the menu for tonight. Roughly 14" long. Since I don't trust the ice, I was fishing from shore in the open water from the diffuser. I could catch one on every cast if I let the silver/orange Little Cleo spoon sink to the bottom before starting the retrieve. This is the smallest one that I caught, most were around 16"-18". They were stocked as 1# fish in October.

Maybe I missed it elsewhere, but I'm curious why you can't have goldens in your pond. As far as I know, they are legal everywhere in PA, as long as they meet state disease test requirements. The original gold mutant rainbow fish came from WV, but it was breeders in PA who propagated the goldens by breeding and interbreeding with regular rainbows to develop today's golden trout. Generally, they are readily available in PA, WV, and VA. If you have trouble finding goldens next season, send me a PM and I'll get you in touch with the agriculture/aquaculture in Harrisburg who can help you. Ken G.

Hmmm. Serious bummer. And, as I guess you have unfortunately found, it would require near constant attention, and a lot of lime every week to make it habitable.
Sorry to hear that.

FWIW, it was a Male. I wonder how much more color it would have had if I were feeding it the special food?

Today's fish came on a 1/100oz jighead, with a 1" Finesse plastic from Custom Jigs and Spins...red. Tipped that with a couple of spikes, and hung it below a small slip float. 10' of water, fishing two feet off the bottom.

Ice out finally came today so I had to take my ulta light down to the pond to see if could snag my lost ice fishing pole, no luck on the pole but I did catch one YP and one SMB. Both looked very healthy.

Sorry, no pics this time but I really wasn't expecting to actually catch any fish. I spent most of the time dragging a jig with a curly tail across the bottom trying to snag the line from my ice fishing pole. Once I gave up on finding the pole I spent 10 minutes hopping the jig off the bottom, that's when I caught both fish.

cool how big were the fish. hope you find your pole a friend was fishing at a local lake with lots of carp in it and he wasn't catching anything so he walked away from the pole and as soon as he did a monster fish took the pole and all. now theres a poor fish draging around a fishing pole at the bottom of the lake.

SMPD, most of us old timers have fishing stuff decorating the bottom of a pond.

Shorty:
Don't feel bad. I fished a spinning rod and reel out of a lake after it was underwater for about 9 months. I looked for it for a long while, and didn't find it until the ice went off of the lake the next Spring. The guide wraps were turned white, but after giving the Penn 650SS a good take-apart cleaning, it still works as good as before it went for an extended bath.

I still haven't found my ice fishing rod but I did find two of these this morning. NICE! Shorty, a trick that has worked for me is to take a fish stringer with metal clips - open all clips and drag across bottom. One of the "hooks" will snag the line or in one case for me - the fishing rod. Give it a shot - worked for me a couple of times.... G/

The wife caught this nice little smallie last Friday evening. I'll set her up with a crawdad on a 2/0 worm hook. I always let her use live bait since she says she only wants to go fishing if she knows she will catch something. Go figure....
