I'm proud to announce that Condello has been 'gas-free' for 71 hours.

I don't miss the past, one bit!

Sure, you stroll down memory lane once in a while, but find you have a headache after that.

My idea of a fun time now, is trying to get my Anaheim Chilies off to a good start!

I attended an oyster roast fundraiser for our local school last night that has had the same band play for the last seven years...they are teenagers, first time they played, the lead guiter / singer was nine (9) years old, and she is a sphomore in high school right now.

They played covers from Mountain, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Aerosmith, Joplin....it is a real blast to watch them play - mostly because they are pretty darn good, but also because they enjoy playing good music.

Sort of a glimmer of hope from the next generation that will be supporting me when I'm too old to brush my own teeth...

This is a crappy youtube video of these guys - keep in mind they are 14 when this was made:

Very cool, and good for them. Leslie West played by a 16 yo girl would rock.

Where were you in August 21,1965? I was a young 16 and wore my brand new baby blue bell-bottoms to the concert. My parents didn't find out about that trip until many years later. I was sort of a rebel back then.

Metropolitan Stadium, Minneapolis (Minnesota) - August 21st, 1965 The Beatles performed just one concert in Minnesota, at the Old Met stadium in Minneapolis before 25000 people. Inside the stadium The Beatles had use of the Minnesota Twins’ locker room. All four took saunas for the first time, according to the clubhouse manager Ray Crump, and played roulette with Brian Epstein for the proceeds of the souvenir programmes. A press conference was held at the stadium’s Minnesota Room, which was attended by around 150 reporters. Local radio station WDGY, along with Ron Butwin and Randy Resnick from local store B-Sharp Music, presented George Harrison with a new Rickenbacker 360-12, an electric 12-string guitar in a Fireglo red sunburst finish (later that year, it was used in studio on "If I Needed Someone" and in 1966 to perform the song on stage). The stage was situated near second base, with around 40 yards separating them from the nearest fans. Each member of the stadium security crew, including police and 150 ushers, was equipped with smelling salts in case fans fainted. After the concert, fans surrounded a limousine outside the stadium, presuming it to be The Beatles’ car. The group hid inside a Falconers’ laundry truck, and were taken back to the Leamington Motor Inn.

Geese, Dwight. I thought you were younger than me. I guess we must have gone to different schools together.

I didn't make it to that concert.

Coming off the farm in my pickup truck, I just hated driving in "the cities." During my college days, I worked for WCCO AM/TV, KDAL AM/TV, and WDSM AM/TV.

Working for stodgy CBS and NBC, WDGY was considered sacriligous. I went to a lot of events sponsored by WDGY.

In those days I'd frequently head to the cities with other amateur radio buddies for concerts and to hit the surplus electronic sales. There was nothing like having the Trashmen open a show, with hits like "Surfin' Bird" or "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow". Those guys were pure genius gold/trash.

Several of my old friends put Thief River Falls, MN, on the map, selling electronic parts to the rest of the world.

While still in high school, several of us went to a small dance where a skinny kid in a leather jacket, who my family knew from the newborn unit with my older brother, gave life to dance music at the local armory. His dad sold us our first TV and antenna system in about 1952 or 1953.

A long time ago I decided that I will probably be at the airport when my ship comes in.

Ah yes, The Trashmen with Steve Ellis and the Starfires at the Hollyhock Ball Room in Hatfield, MN. Buddy Holly played there too.
