While it isn't recommended, I purchased a set of skidding tongs from Harbor Freight and use them to pick up rounds to place on the log splitter with the FEL on the tractor. I then split & toss the splits in the bucket, using the bucket to put the splits inside the storage shed where I then stack them. Scott - I'm sure neither of us would make it through an OSHA audit at home (I somehow made it successfully every time, for many years, while still in my real job running a rather large DoD manufacturing facility.) I regularly use one or two log tongs, chained to the tooth bar on my tractor's front end loader, to move and stack large logs (20-inch x 12-16 foot) into piles. It probably ain't really safe, but I'm not young anymore. Maybe it is pure luck. Maybe it is just paying attention to.dangerous situations. Ken

I upgraded to a John Deere 310 backhoe last year. It's a good compromise from my perspective - really good power ratio, not so large as to not be maneuverable in tighter spaces, not so heavy that I can't get close to the edge of the pond. I second the 'multiple buckets' notion...I've got a 12-18-24 and a ripper for trenching/root removal.

The excavator operator would probably easily qualify to be an astronaut if he can make several "rounds" without staggering and loosing his lunch. Sheesh!

n8ly, tell those boys to watch it in shallow water. I've been on a slalom ski, and had the fin go aground. Stopping abruptly in ankle deep water isn't near as fun as falling in 5' of water!
