I have a 40 year old + pond 200ft from my house. It is well balanced and has some nice bass/bluegill. i have bad algae + weed growth. Depths range from 2 ft - 8ft maybe 10 in one spot. I am using grass carp and understand that aeration will be helpful for many reasons. \
I don't like the looks of a fountain so would like to use a deep water bubbler of some kind.

Any suggestions do I want to aerate in one spot or lay out a couple of hundred feet of pipe or hose. I hope it will create a little bit of water movement.

Thanks in advance.

The systyms I have seen (no idea which ones are better or why) seem pretty simple. Some are quite a bit more than others. Should I just create my own systym.... I would only bother if there is a huge cost savings?

I use diffuser systems on three of my ponds but I need more information to help you. What is the size and shape of your pond? Where in the country are you located as in does your pond freeze over in winter?

There are others on here that sell systems and may even be near you if we have a clue to where you are located (sorry no offense but I don't understand why some are hesitant to put down their address with the profile)

I get my compressor/diffusers from Stoney Creek Equipment company in Michigan (they have a website at http://www.stoneycreekequip.com/ ,and I think they are one of the most reasonable around. But if you find someone near you they may even come out and help you set it up.

Caution: Don't start one up until this fall unless you gradually break it in. If you crank it up full bore right now you could bring up anoxic water and have a fish kill.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks Cecil
I live in Northern virginia so the pond does freeze over on occasion but certainly not all Winter. I would guesss the pond is about 1 acre and rectangular in shape.

I live in Northern virginia so the pond does freeze over on occasion but certainly not all Winter. I would guess the pond is about 2.7 acres and rectangular in shape built between 50=65 years ago. It is pretty shallow 2-8 ft with 1/2 the pond at less than 5 ft. There is alot of muck in the pond.... I sink about 2 feet into sludge in the shallow end if I try to wade across. Is it worth having a diffuser that runs into the shallow end as well?

Hi Redfishman,

You're in my area, so I'd appreciate being able to discuss this with you further. Before you go to the expense of a diffused air system, check out www.SolarBee.com.

We've had excellent success in applications like yours, and the ability of the SolarBee to increase organic digestion can extend the life of most ponds while providing immediate improvements to water quality.

Best Regards,

Michael

The SolarBee looks like an interesting solution for some situations. Looks a too large for my application and probably expensive.

Cecil...my pond sounds a lot like redfishmans . appx. 2.5 to 3 acres shaped like a tooth. 2 channels coming in like roots on a tooth then it forms the main pond forming a point in the pond . each channel is appx. 40'wide x 90'long . the channels are appx.4 to 6' deep with the main part of the pond 8'deep. it's also an old pond in east texas. i have a ton of oak & sweet gum leaves fall into the pond each fall. same question ? should i aireate....Second question , i don't live at the pond site but go every week most of the time. if i had a fish kill could i see evidence only going once a week ! bass fishing is allmost non existant . poaching is possible, talked to the game warden and he said we had some real bad problems in this area but i have not seen any signs not even a cigarette butt.well my main question is aireation. also if i restock the bass , fi or pure florida. Thanks Harvey
