That BG is a very good example of a male BG in winter colors. It is a dandy fish.

Man Bruce I have to admit I don't spend enough time on your site and I really have no idea why.. Love that site.. Also anytime I load a fish you wanna share you have permissions to do what you like with them.. Maybe some day ill get some CSBG genes in the mix then they'll actually be part yours

I don't know but when I was researching them one of there qualities was ability to live long on a hook through the ice.. That could of obviously been a sales ploy but i was gonna give them a shot anyways.. They seemed to last about twice as long as a regular worm on the hook today.. Not 30 mins maybe 10, but the skin is very tough so they stay on the Hook excellent..

At LL, 2 for the Pondboss Moderators meeting. We took a break to fish a little. Here is my first bass of the day. That's Mike Otto's finger blocking part of the picture.

Fished the main pond Saturday with a couple buddies. Had warm weather all week - and Saturday was up to 50. Ice was deteriorating fast around the edges, North side of the pond was actually opened up and a ring of water surrounded us by the end of the day. Main ice was 7" when we arrived, 4" when we left! Apparently we left with not much time to spare. Historically I've had issues finding a reliable bite on my pond - it's notorious as a light ice bite fishery and fish are constantly moving due to my intentional lack of structure - but I wanted to try and change my luck this year. Also, I've had many questions I was hoping to address this Winter through ice fishing: Where are the YP which were up to 13" in Winter 2011 - Was my WE stocking in Fall of 2011 successful - How's the winter condition of my SMB and HBC? Had a great time and learned some things by the time we left the pond: Started out the day with a 8"+ CSBG - that's a large fish for my pond. We caught dozens more throughout the day, but they were all in the 4-6" range - as I suspected. Managed a few RES, this was the largest at around 7". Population is strong, but improved frequency of larger fish [9"+] would be nice. The SMB hit jigging spoons most of the day - few fish between 8-12", 6 were up to 17.5". I was surprised at their size, and WR looked pretty strong. The HBC also loved the jigging spoons, and we saw a dozen fish ranging from 11" - 13.5". I was hoping for a 15"er I suspect is swimming. To be continued on next post....

Continued.... I was hoping to pop that large WE taken in the Spring through the ice this season, no luck thus far. However, a couple of my fish from the Fall 2011 showed up, and it was good to see. Stocked at 5-6", both were 11" albeit pretty skinny. When their gape allows, I expect them to turn the corner pretty quickly. Stocked 300 YP in the Fall of 2008 at 4-6", and Winter of 2011 turned up many fish up to 12.5 - 13". I thought my now I'd have a nice class of jumbos, but instead haven't been able to find those fish since. Was stoked when 5 rogue YP were caught Saturday, the largest just over 13", two others at 12.5" and all were bruisers with high WR. They also loved the jigging spoons tipped with small FHM. The only species that eluded us was the Wiper - but I doubt we'd have been able to land one with our UL rigs. Best day on the ice in a long time, and best day at our place ever - wish my PB bros were with me!

WOW! Nice work, TJ! Those smallies look super healthy!
Great report!
I can't recall...what was the biggest WE you caught in your pond? I never got one more that 15/16" tops, and it was not fat, from my pond.
