Hello everyone, just found the site and joined immediately, from South Carolina, upstate area. Fulfilled a lifelong dream of purchasing land last year, 109 acres, been trying to get a permit to build a pond for the last 6 months. Basically have run into a brick wall at every turn. Was requesting to dam a small stream, and the amount of mitigation credits required was outside of reason (4x's more expensive than the property). I have one avenue left and am trying work it out now. Nice to read everyones post and wish me luck.

Doug, welcome to the forum. Yeah, flowing water is a sticky issue.

There's other reasons why it's not a good idea, one of which is whatever is in (or could be in) the stream will end up in your pond.

If there's another area to dig or dam up for a pond, I'd look at that before messing with flowing water.

Doug, welcome, do you have the right to pump any of the water out of the stream to a pond if you build one elsewhere on your property?

Can you let us know which agencies you have talked to?

How big a pond are you trying to build?

What are your plans for your pond?

Do you have the topography to catch runoff?

And if you feel comfortable talking about you last ave, I assure you there is someone here that had been there before and might be able to share some earlier experiences.

The group here is very eclectic to say the least!

Again, welcome, share what you want and the ideas will follow!
