grubbing hoe or pick axe to me.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Cat,
I had a similar experience just last weekend. Ran over some roadmesh under blackberry bushes. Tractor immediately stopped and I found a "wad" of road mesh all up in the blades. I started driving back to the house thinking I had a couple of hours of work to cut and free the wire. Luckily, while driving the tractor, the wire stuck in the ground and "rolled" out.
BH, I hate hidden surpises but can't imagine barbed wire in the pond. Do ya'll swim in the pond?

So, did you catch any thing before you got hung up, or what did you hope to catch?

I consider a pick ax to have pointy ends.

4. It's actually the antenna from the spacecraft of alien beings, who like those who crashed at Roswell, had mastered intergalactic space flight and flew many light years to get to earth, but somehow messed up the last 500 feet and crashed into my pond.

Umm is it just me?? Why the heck is there barb wore in your pond..?? No idea, I just bought the place a year ago, but I have three theories. 1. A cow got it caught on her leg and it happened to come off when she went for a swim. 2. The top side of this pond is real close to the boundary fence. Perhaps a really hard rain washed it in. 3. Some jerk threw it in when he didn't know what else to do with it. There is another possibility. I know someone who threw woven wire and all kinds of stuff in his ponds near the edges near prime looking fishing spots specifically to catch the lures / lines of anyone who snuck in to fish his ponds.
